Blog Journal #3

 Hello blog,

Just so you know copyright and fair use are two different things from each other. While copy right protects the idea or creation from being used by other people to pass on as their own, while fair use allows you to comment on make a parody on, or criticize the work without any repercussions. As a teacher I would encourage students to use their own work and refrain from plagiarism and copyright. I would use different programs that can help me check my students work to make sure it is their authentic work. If I were to find that they used someone else’s I would have them redo it but in their own unique way.

Cyberbullying is a huge problem, not only is it an issue in technology uses in the classroom but throughout the world. One way we can fix this issue is to educate our students on the effects that cyberbullying can have on a student’s life. Another way that we can prevent it is by monitoring our students in a way that can both prevent cyberbullying from happening/and make it realized how wrong it is, as well as making the classroom feel like a safe place for students to feel comfortable enough to talk to a teacher if they are having an issue with cyberbullying. Another issue in a classroom is decreased productivity. To prevent this we can maximize learning time (avoiding leaving leeway during a lesson), boost student collaboration (small groups provides students who don’t feel comfortable sharing in big groups an opportunity to express their ideas), encourage down time (younger students have a harder time staying focused for a longer time), and establish the need and want to learn.

A new skill I was able to acquire from making my newsletter was not only do I know how to use the column function but, I can also now create a formatted page to get information across to others. I could definitely improve my newsletter in the future by using more designs from other websites like Canva. These skills would be used weekly for my weekly newsletter to my students and parents. Not only can I use it for newsletters, but I am able to use these skills in my lessons as well.

  1. Kyla, I am in love with the way you set up your Class Newsletter! This looks amazing! Also, I could not agree more on the issues you presented with Cyberbullying and internet safety. So many students fail to connect the truth that their words are actually being read by another real person across the screen. I think as educators we have an amazing opportunity ahead of us to educate our students about how their words and actions impact others. Great post!
